Based in the Uk, I developed crippling pain in my front left jaw. The pain lasted for ten months until in the end I could only sleep for a few minutes between attacks and then only standing up. I saw four consultants, three doctors, two dentists (one being a dental consultant). I was incorrectly given a very expensive root canal filling! Finally, It was assumed that I had Trigeminal Neuralgia and offered enough drugs for pain to stock a pharmacy, none of which were effective and none of which I continued with. A friend of the family, who is also a gynecologist, correctly identified scm and gave me assistance to remove the problem. I was lucky as I had not then discovered your work, which, had I done so, would have solved my problem much earlier. In the UK, doctors have little or no understanding of scm, however it is becoming the scourge of the computer generations. Please continue with your work as it is invaluable. I only wish you were based here! Many thanks and best wishes, Simon.

Thanks for the video share! I've been having "migraines for several months now" that all started when I was driving for a living during the day and coming home and playing video games at night. One morning I woke up and felt very dizzy and had a massive headache and it has never really gone away for over 3 months. I've been diagnosed for migraines and taken many medications that have worse side effects than the actual migraine/dizziness. My symptoms are... - headache - lightheaded - chest pain (tender) - Blurred vision - sensitivity to light/sound that comes and goes Does this sound like SCM Issue?

As a physical therapist I see this to often be a powerful place to treat for people who have not had relief. Often they've seen their primary physician, a spine surgeon, a neuro surgeon, a chiropractor, and a physical therapist. The patient says they have back pain so the healthcare practitioner looks at the spine. Once we bark up the right tree the patient has amazing relief. Sometimes I also see pain down the leg that is similar to "sciatica" or "piriformis syndrome". Why the pain mimics the sciatic nerve pattern and is unknown, but treating that trigger point as described above is very powerful. I treat it with acupuncture needles using a technique physical therapist call "dry needling", but the major key is to treat that trigger point and awesome results happen if this is the primary cause of their problem.

I love the clamshell exercise, stretching, and manual interventions for treating this. Adding resistance on the bike and standing could definitely cause this. That's not to say doing so is a bad thing, but you'll have to be proactive to keep the pain down.

A-B duction is usually pronounced that way to differentiate it from AD-duction. The "mispronunciation" is intentional.

Great video! My only question is why you pronounce "abduct" as A-B-duct and not in the usual way, in two syllables with a short a, as in "abdominal." Is this to distinguish it form adduction?

My anatomy instructor always pronounced the terms in the same manner... it totally avoids confusion. Thanks for your great work with the trigger point videos. I practice these techniques daily and solve way more complaints than my early days of adjustment only practice.

It's just a way to distinguish between the words adduction and abduction, as they sound very similar. My old anatomy professor use to pronounce it that way and I guess it stuck with me.
